Elephant country beneath the baobabs
Tarangire National Park is one of northern Tanzania's most distinctive safari landscapes. Its ancient baobab trees, rolling grasslands, seasonal swamps, and the Tarangire River create a striking setting for wildlife encounters away from the busier migration routes.
In the dry season, animals gather around the river and permanent wetlands. Large elephant herds are the signature sight, but game drives can also reveal lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, and more than 500 bird species.

Best time to visit
June to October is the classic dry-season window, when wildlife concentrates around water and the park is especially rewarding for elephant viewing. November to May brings fresh green landscapes, young animals, and excellent birdwatching. Tarangire is also a strong choice for a quieter first or final stop on a northern circuit.
